7 Tips on How to Shape Your Brows!

1. Don’t wax underneath your brow

Waxing can limit regrowth and thin out your eyebrows. If you have stubborn hairs in the area, try threading, so you won’t run the risk of someone who is inexperienced waxing off too large an area in one go!

2. Don’t pluck or wax above your eyebrow

This can cause your eyebrows to either be too thin or to slant downwards, neither of which will accentuate your face shape!

3. Find a pencil that is the right color for your skin tone and hair color

If you have dark hair, look for a pencil 1-2 shades lighter than your hair color. If you have light hair, try a shade darker. You should also consider whether you have warm or cool tones in your skin! If you have warm reddish tones to your skin, always go with an ashy colored pencil to combat redness.

4. Learn your shape

Hold a pencil up to one side of the bridge of your nose. Your eyebrow should start at this line. The arch should begin above the outer edge of your iris. The tip, or outside of your eyebrow, should follow the curve of your eye and taper gradually from the arch.

5. Brush up

This is a great tip to follow to avoid making your eyebrows too thick or too thin. If you have over plucked your eyebrows, or feel they are a little thin, try brushing the hairs upwards before using brow pencil. This will give the appearance of thicker brows, and give a better line to follow with a pencil when filling your brows in. If your eyebrows are too thick, brush the hairs upwards before plucking to ensure you only pluck the hairs below.

6. Follow the natural angle of the hairs

This sounds obvious, but quite often your eyebrow hair does not all angle the same way. Usually, the hair near the bridge of your nose will angle upwards, while the hair on the center of your brow will angle outwards towards the side of your face. Follow these lines in a hair stroke pattern with your eyebrow pencil for a much more natural looking brow.

7. Set your eyebrow pencil or powder with finishing powder or brow gel (optional)

While eyebrow makeup is usually not waterproof, setting your makeup will at least stop the everyday oils and moisture from your skin affecting your beautifully made up brows!

New Popular Candidate for Permanent Makeup!

Women who have reached the age of menopause not only experience a rapid change in hormone levels, but it is accompanied with unwanted side-effects. The most notorious of all menopause side-effects is hot flashes; this is a sudden sensation of intense heat that leaves women flushed red and drenched with sweat. Perspiration on the face and forehead is especially unfortunate for those who pencil in their brows with makeup because those brows just sweat right off. Ruth Swissa claims that many costumers have complained about this and come in to get their eyebrows permanently put on. One of Ruth’s customers said she had to re-pencil in her eyebrows at least eight times a day because these hot-flashes would rinse them right out every time. She explained how she would be in constant panic and distress about whether her brows were still visible every couple of hours. Permanent eyebrows has proved to be an effective route for this unfortunate side effect; Ruth’s patients give wonderful feedback regarding this procedure. With permanent eyebrows, you won’t ever have to worry about your brows rubbing off in the heat of an unpleasant hot-flash.

Q: Do I Have to Get Rid of All the Hair on My Brows Before I Do Permanent Eyebrows?

A: When getting permanent eyebrows done, there is an ongoing misconception that one would have to get rid of all current eyebrow hair. Ruth Swissa is here to clear up this myth and provide you with information that’s actually quite the contrary. At Ruth Swissa Professional Permanent Makeup and Skin, we put the utmost importance to eyebrow hair, looking to preserve each strand. Many customers have asked Ruth if they would need to shave their eyebrows clean in order to get permanent eyebrows but this is a false idea. Ruth Swissa uses the eyebrow hair as a simple add-on to the already 3-d looking pigment she applies just to provide you with realistic and natural result.

On the other hand, there are many customers who come to Ruth Swissa who suffer from hair-loss diseases such as alopecia or trichotillomania and don’t have any eyebrow hair for Ruth to work with. Not to worry, Ruth has an artistic eye and skillful technique, she is able to apply permanent makeup pigment in a way where the strokes look like real hair. Ruth never uses generic stencils that were in style twenty years ago. Each of our clients leave with natural-looking eyebrows that suit and enhance their individual facial expression.
